Firefox 3.1 gets beta and features update [ Private browsing and Tab Preview ]

Hello Humanoids . Firefox developers are unimaginably busy , they keep getting updates every week , but hey do this for us ! We all demanded private browsing feature which has recently been implemented in Internet Explorer 8 beta and is embedded ( default) in Google Chrome and now we have private browsing in Firefox .

Lets take a look at some of the features of Firefox 3.1 beta 2 ( Firefox Minefield ) with some screenshots :

Google Reader Icon and  link  :   The Google Reader link has now been added to Firefox , the icon is located at the bottom right of the web browser . The Google Reader icon will lead you to your feeds at once. This feature will be very useful for people who use Google Reader frequently.  Here is the screen shot   :

 

 Tabs Preview and New Tab Icon : A feature which has been taken form the Opera Speed dial and the new Google Chrome , bu what's different is that the tab preview doesn't open in a new tab , a small window pops up and displays the tabs which are opened . What's great that it includes a Search button and what's bad is that you can't arrange the tabs plus there is no way to close the tabs preview window and  you have to click the tabs preview icon to close it and you can't even move the preview window which makes it difficult to read even though the tabs preview window is aero themed .

Another new and a useless feature is The New Tab Icon , its basically just an icon where you click to create a new tab , nothing new .

 

  

Private browsing : This feature was totally expected , since its there in every browser present : why would Firefox ignore it  ?  

To go to Private Browsing :  Tools - > Private Browsing  . 

This will lead you to this window  : 

Click on Start Private browsing , this will result in restarting of Firefox and and your old tabs will get saved , you can get them back by doing the same old ticking off the Private browsing mode ( in Tools ) .

I don't think there is need to tell you what Private Browsing mode does , so yeah thats all about the new Firefox 3.1 beta 2 ( nightly version )

Firefox Minefield or FF 3.1b2 is fast and i mena lightning fast , maybe because of no extensions , addons and themes . Will be great to see a a public beta release from Mozilla as early as possible .

Make Google Chrome look like Safari and Firefox !

Hello Humanoids . Lack of customization is one of the biggest problem faced by most of the Google Chrome users unlike the highly customizable Firefox , you can make your Firefox look like Chrome or make it look like Safari ! Today , i googled up for some Chrome plugins to make it look like Firefox or even Safari !

I randomly went through tons of websites , but result were not satisfying enough .  But then , i found something which very few people know but can be very useful :

Safari Theme for Google Chrome  : 

 How to Install the theme  :

•  Extract the files from the archive using your own extraction tool. Ie: WinRAR

•  Go to: (Replacing USERNAME with your username)

Vista - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes

XP - C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\LocalSettings\AppData\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes

• And backup your existing, Default.DLL file (Just incase anything goes wrong)

•  Copy over Default.DLL from your extracted files into your Themes folder.

Time to Update : Yahoo Messenger , Firefox and Windows Vista Ultimate !

Hello Humanoids , this definitely is the longest title ever , but there wasn't option left so , lets take a look at what updates have taken place :

Yahoo Messenger 9.0 : Finally , thank the lord - Yahoo! messenger has finally risen from all the betas and is now stable. Here are all the features in Yahoo Messenger 9.0 from Ymblog :

Stability :   Never seen before in any YM versions.

Speed : Better than ever .

Features : Very innovative , Hi Five !

Conclusion :  The wait was worthy , its a must download !

Firefox 3.0.2 :   The not so long but very much awaited Firefox 3.0.2 which seems good enough to fix the bugs found in Firefox 3.0.1

• Major security errors and stability errors have been fixed .

• Official releases for Sinhala and Slovene are now available. New languages are in beta : Bengali, Galician, Hindi, Icelandic, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, and Thai

•  Fixed a number of minor issues with the layout of certain web pages.Fixed several theme issues that affected right-to-left locales

•  Fixed issue that caused some users with customized toolbars to have their Back and Forward buttons go missingAdd new Extended Validation (EV) roots to Firefox 3.0.2.

• Fixed several hangs and crashes that occurred when using screen readers.

• Good news for Mac users :  Mac-specific issues have been fixed ! 

This version of Firefox hasn't been referred to as a perfect update , but yes you should without a doubt update your Firefox to Firefox 3.0.2 :

Windows Vista Ultimate :  Most of the Windows Vista users must be knowing about this , while some wouldn't have noticed it but these updates dont come very often.

As you know these updates are called Windows Ultimate Extras , hence its only for people using Windows Vista Ultimate .


Here are the few updates  :

How to Run Faster Fox in Firefox 3 and above version !

Hello Humanoids . When Firefox got updated to Firefox 3 and then later Firefox 3.0.1 i used to take care if all my addons were updated , but the only addon which never got updated was Faster Fox , one of he most popular and widely used addon with Firefox 1.5 - Firefox 2.0 , but sadly the developer never gave us an update , thus people had to remove it since they cant afford to wait for an addon and not update their web browser !

I was desperately looking for a way to find out how to Run Faster Fox in Firefox 3.0.1 (which is the current version , if you haven't updated then please do so),.
but wasn't successful . So i decided to find out a way myself and to my delight it was successful !



Here is how you can do it in few steps , just keep following closely :

Go to the Faster Fox Website   and you will see something like the image below :

• Instead of Clicking on it , right click and click on Save Link  As and it shall be included in your Firefox Download Window

• Now Right click after it finishes installing and select   Open Containing Folder Option .

• This will lead you to the file , now you need a software for Unzipping such as  Winzip , 7zip or Winrar . In this case we shall use Winrar  .

• Right Click on the File  which will be named as  faster-fox-2.0.0-fx.xpi  and select  " Add to faster-fox-2.0.0-fx.xpi.rar "  option .

• Now  go to the .rar folder named as  " Add to faster-fox-2.0.0-fx.xpi.rar "  and right click on the folder and then select the option Open .

• This will Lead you to the Winrar Interface . You will see the faster-fox-2.0.0-fx.xpi  file on the Winrar page and all you have to do this right click on it and  select View option .

• Now you shall notice few files  like the image below :

• Double Click  on the  file  named as  " install.rdf "  and if you get it on a Notepad File try redirecting it to the WordPad since you won't be able to edit it in a Notepad File .

• Now go to the bottom of the file in Wordpad and you shall the following code at the bottom  :

See the Arrow   :  Replace   <"em:maxVersion>2.0.0.*<"/em:maxVersion>

to

<"em:maxVersion>3.0.4.*<"/em:maxVersion>

Note  - If you are Using Firefox 3.0.0  , then replace the code by :  <"em:maxVersion>3.0.0.*<"/em:maxVersion>



Update -  The code has been updated , and the readers can change the 2.0.0 to whatever version will be upcoming up , for example for Firefox Version 3.0.5 :  change the 2.0.0 to 3.0.5 , simple !


Note -  Remove the inverted commas please from the inside of the tag.

• Just save the file and   a window shall appear  :

• Just click on Yes   and then Press the Backspace from your Keyboard and you shall be back to the place where you started !

• Now drag  Firefox-2.0.0-fx file from Winrar Interface itself  by pressing left Mouse button to your Firefox window  and click on install . 

Faster Fox is now compatible and Running on your Firefox !

I wrote this tutorial in a very easy to understand manner hence everybody can grasp it effectively !

Here are some awesome features too :

1. video size is set to 80% of screen resolution by default, but can be changed in the SCRIPT CONFIGURATION section.
2. Remember to wait for website to load completely, then it should change to the enlarged video.
3. (FEATURE TEMPORARILY DISABLED) autoplay is turned off by default, but can be toggled on/off through greasemonkey menu command
4. sites have direct download links, link to keepvid, or link to clipnabber, depending on whether or not they're available ( dont do that though :=(

• Youtube Lyrics : This was the GM script i was looking for all through out the week and yeah i finally found it . Its kinda VERY useful , because a youtube freak like me loves lyrics with the video :=) Cheer up Music lovers !

Youtube lyrics does the following : It adds a lyrics box to the YouTube sidebar under the video information box. It can search in nine different lyrics sites and it shows also all the results in a drop down.

• IGoogle Change Layout : As its name suggests , it surely doesnt do much but yeah u can change the layout and yeah it was very essential for aperson like me who hated those layouts :( . So what does it that it Changes iGoogle containers layout. You can add to the tab drop down menu three icons with the possibles containers layout. Plus you get a black background ;)
  

• Customize Google : This script completely customizes the classic Google homepage. Accordigng to the developer : You must fill in the first 3 lines of the script with the specified information for the script to work. See comments for complete details. It replaces every place on Google that says Google with your name. Also it replaces the "I'm feeling lucky" text, the G in the Gmail link to your first initial, and a few other things. I will update this script whenever the layout changes on Google, so check back regularly.

This is one gem of a Script and dont dare to miss this one ;)

• Google Skin : Yes this can definitely pimp your Google Search like anything ! I just love its 3D effect and yeah i cant use Google Search without this Addon . This also includes tons of modified features and icons !
  

• Blogger Advanced Comment Editor : If there is any blogger who uses firefox out here ..then there is NO REASON why you shouldnt have this ! The only excepption is that you dont comment in any of the blog :=( . Idioticity aside , This proved to be very useful to me as i am a Google Blogger user and i love to comment in many of the blogs so what more whati can do is that you can make your comments in BOLD , Italic , Underlined and by far the best you can add a LINK to it , this can surely suprise
  

• Google Old Favicon : Is it just me or is it you too who hastes the new favicon ? If you too hate it then WE BOTH SHOULD JUST DUMP IT ! There is a way to do it ! ha ha , those developers dont lack creativity

• Gtalk inside the New Orkut : Well this is tested and it works very well , I feel its one hell of a brilliant script , Who doesnt wanna Gtalk while Social Networking ? ( did i say someone raise his/her voice ? :-| ) . Well from my personal experiences there is a confusion you could face . Actually when you install this go to the Orkut homepage and click on HymnZ ( Gtalk is hidden inside ) . Just login and Start chatting !

• Google Search Ultimate Makeover : Yes , its the last Script ( C,mon guys i do get tired after all :=( But hey There is a saying " Leave the best for the Last " , so here i am following that ! This script is in my opinion the best Google Addon . See a list of features and prepare to be blown away :
