Google Chrome gets an update to third beta ! [ MUST UPDATE ]

Hello Humanoids . Chrome is the  newly added web browser from Google who initially achieved success but then started loosing its touch due to tons of errors .But the developer team is back with a great beta .

I am writing this post , after i stumbled upon the Google Japan Blog , surprisingly people from Google Japan officially announced it yesterday , but Google ( U.S ) still hasn't updated it , that's why only few people know about it !

How to update Google Chrome ?

Open the web browser , and navigate to Customize and Control Google Chrome icon ( Top - right ) and then go to About . Here Google Chrome will automatically tell if you need an update or not and yes this time you do , so click on Update and it shall be updated pretty quickly.

I thought , i could fit in these screen shot if you don't mind  :   These are meant to show Chrome About before the update and Chrome About after the update .

First impressions ?

There hasn't been any physical changes , it is the same old Google Chrome and has no added features . Though , the performance seems better ( after i used it for half an hour ) , the speed is great and has less stability issues and i tried the recovering tab feature , which worked .

So what are the changes  ?

Here is the list of what exactly did change :

Security Update

  • This release fixes an issue with address spoofing in pop-ups. A site could convince a user to click a link to open a pop-up window. The window's address bar could be manipulated to show a different address than the actual origin of the content.

Security rating: Medium. This flaw could be used to mislead people about the origin of a web site in order to get them to divulge sensitive information.

Disclosed by: Liu Die Yu of the TopsecTianRongXin research lab.

Top Issues Fixed

  •  Scrolling with laptop touchpads now works.
  •  Improved performance and reliability for plugins (like Flash, Silverlight, QuickTime, and Windows Media). We fixed issues with video not loading, stopping after a second, and slowing down or freezing Google Chrome (100% CPU usage).
  •  Fixed the 'chrome has crashed' message when you close a tab that was showing PDF using Adobe Reader 9.
  •  We no longer store data from secure sites (they use https: and show a lock in the address bar) in your history. You can still search your history for the site's address, but not the contents on the page.
  •  Improved performance and reliability for people who use web proxies (thanks to griffinz for the fixes).

Changes to how things look and work

  •  The New tab, New window, and New incognito window options moved from the 'Control the current page' menu to the 'Customize and control Google Chrome' (wrench) menu. Thanks to Szymon Piechowicz for the patch.
  •  'New incognito window' always opens a new window. 'New window' always opens a new normal window. Both options are always visible on the wrench menu.
  • The spell checker works on text input fields and underlines misspelled words. You can now add words to the spell check dictionary so they are not shown as misspelled (right click on a misspelled word and choose 'Add to dictionary...').
  • The download behavior for files that could run programs (exe, dll, bat, etc.) has changed. These files are now downloaded to unconfirmed_*.download files. Google Chrome asks you if you want to accept the download. Only after you click Save is the unconfirmed_*.download file converted to the real file name. Downloads that you never confirm are deleted when Google Chrome exits.

I remember when i downloaded the second beta of the Google Chrome , there were lots of problems  , it was difficult to type in forums and editing , copy and pasting the urls from the url bar was a difficult task , but now all of this changed and this version is a MUST UPDATE .

Download the Google Chrome third beta from here . If you don't have it already , of course.

There must be some errors ( nothing is  error proof ) ,  i cant wait for somebody to find errors and mind you , have a look at the Google Chrome Blog's comments , this will be useful if you want to know the bugs and all that stuff . I am pretty much very happy with this beta , can't wait for extensions and toolbar support to arrive !

Take Care ,

Make Google Chrome look like Safari and Firefox !

Hello Humanoids . Lack of customization is one of the biggest problem faced by most of the Google Chrome users unlike the highly customizable Firefox , you can make your Firefox look like Chrome or make it look like Safari ! Today , i googled up for some Chrome plugins to make it look like Firefox or even Safari !

I randomly went through tons of websites , but result were not satisfying enough .  But then , i found something which very few people know but can be very useful :

How to Install the theme  :

    • And backup your existing, Default.DLL file (Just incase anything goes wrong)
    •  Copy over Default.DLL from your extracted files into your Themes folder.

You can download this theme from here

Firefox Theme for Google Chrome  :

How to Install this theme ?

You can follow the steps above , if you still have any problem , click here  .

Google Chrome : 7 Thing I hate and like about You !

Hello Humanoids .   Finally , Google Chrome is here and most all of us were waiting impatiently . I wasn't excited  at all until i did download this unique web browser. I think it was worth the wait now , but this is just the first beta and it has loads of bugs and loads of features i love .

First and foremost lets take a look at its features :

One box for EverythingWeb search. Web history. Address bar. Suggestions as you type. One unified box serves all your browsing needs

New Tab Page : Every time you open a new tab, you'll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs

Application Shortcuts : Use web apps without opening your browser. Application shortcuts can directly load your favorite online apps

Dynamic Tabs : You can drag tabs out of the browser to create new windows, gather multiple tabs into one window or arrange your tabs however you wish -- quickly and easily

Crash Control : Every tab you're using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won't take anything else down

Incognito Mode : Don't want pages you visit to show up in your web history? Choose incognito mode for private browsing

Safe Browsing : Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website

Instant Bookmarks : Want to bookmark a web page? Just click the star icon at the left edge of the address bar and you're done

Import Settings : When you switch to Google Chrome, you can pick up where you left off with all the bookmarks and passwords from your existing browser

Simpler Downloads : No intrusive download manager; you see your download's status at the bottom of your current window .

Here are some Screen Shots :

I don't have time for the hardcore testing , but i can give you my first impressions !

So here are  First Impressions  about Google Chrome after using for an hour or so :

7 Things i hate about Google Chrome

    • There is absolutely NO integration with google apps, by default. I would have thought it's bookmarks would give you an option to link up with your google bookmarks. Or import them. I figured it wouldn't even be an option just built in. Same with maps, calendar, and mail. They didn't leverage the power of their existing products at all.

    • There is no Home button and the status bar doesn't even exists !
Update :  Darn , i found a way to add Home Button . Just go to , Customize and Control Chrome  -> Option - > Basics - > Tick the Add Home page Option .

    • Crash doesn't even exist . I have tested it on fully loaded Web 2.0 website , but this did resist pretty well .

    • There is a Big Argument whether This web browser did pass Acid Test , but according to a genuine source it has passed Acid 3 test.

    • Scrolling ?  A tad more sensitive than other web browsers  (  I have seen reports that the scrolling doesn't work in some cases )
    • No recently Closed Tabs , Boo . But there is a History Link , so don't worry !
    • There is still no Download link For Mac or Linux OS computers
Note for Bloggers :  If you are eager to use Chrome as a default browser , then think again as most of the widgets that aren't of Google will break the sidebar widgets for sure !

7 Things i like about Google Chrome :

    • Great privacy tool
    • The fastest web browser on planet .

    • Imports all the data from other web browsers in matter of seconds

    • A slap to the face on what IE 8 Beta 2 introduced as private browsing , incognito rules !
    • Great UI for Windows Vista users , have no idea about UI in Windows XP
    • Spell Check is everywhere , thats a great thing for a blogger like me , Kudos .
    • One of the most interesting feature is application shortcut , i have started using  it !

One more very important comparison which should be done manually is the RAM usage Comparison :

    Firefox 3.0.1 : 115,368 K

    Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 : 81,308 K

    Google Chrome : 52,484 K

Download Google Chrome by clicking the download button below

    Photobucket

So what should be the conclusion ?

I wont suggest you to change your default browser , but i would suggest you to give Google Chrome a try .
Google Chrome Already has speed , functionalities and has great scope for improvement  web kits . But Google Chrome has ages left to be the next Firefox .
Go give Google Chrome a try , by the way i am writing this post via Google Chrome !

    Take care,
